Special Thanks to Randy Thomas and Julie Heyde!

We’re grateful to Randy Thomas and Julie Heyde for their leadership. Shown running the 1979 Boston Marathon, wearing number 5, Randy has been the coach of the Boston College women’s track team for three decades. Randy – with support from assistant coach, Julie Heyde – seized on the potential for the Runner in Red Essay Competition to give women runners a “voice.” Their leadership, with strong participation by all the young women on the BC women’s track team, made the Pilot a success and created the momentum for national expansion.
